WALT: Write sentences about Tim Peake
Remind the children that we have been learning about Tim Peake the astronaut.
  • Watch cosmic classroom Tim Peake (5 minutes) click here
  • Discuss and share what it was like on the ISS for Tim Peake
  • Shared write some sentences about Tim Peake on the ISS
Questions- What could Tim see out of the ISS window? What happened when Tim touched his toes in space? What happens to Tim when he spins around? What other tricks can Tim do?

Year 1 Write sentences about Tim Peake. (AG and CM write 3 sentences )
Write about what you know about him - Where he was born? His time on the ISS. How he became an astronaut? How long he was on the ISS for? What jobs he did on it?

Use the vocabulary sheet to help with spellings.

YR Write a sentence about Tim Peake on the International Space Station (Mrs Griffiths and Mrs Cockerham) Please trim writing sheets and stick in English books- Thank you
e.g. Tim can spin around fast in space. Tim floats around on the ISS. Keep the sentences short and simple. There are some children that could write 3/ 4 sentences - JA, AE, IM.

WALT: know how to design product packaging based on previous knowledge of similar products. 
​(DT booklets should be in school. I normally keep them in the draw with Year 1 sketch books)

Today the Year 1 children need to design the packaging for a snack to take to space.
  • First have a look at the different packaging and discuss. What is included on the packaging?
  • Explain to the children that after the lesson on Thursday exploring the best food to take to space we have decided to make a jam wrap.
  • Your packaging needs to include a name, description, list of ingredients and picture.
  • Draw two different designs- you could come up with a group design and then your own.

Printed Easter Patterns
Take some small or new potatoes, cut them in half, then carefully carve your chosen pattern on to the surface.
Paint the halves with different colours of finger paint and firmly press on to some card. This tutorial from My Kid Craft shows you how in more detail.
To finish off the card before sending it, use some patterned tape to make a border around it.

Today we are going to write about what you did at Forest School. What did you make? What did you use to decorate your mud cake? How many candles did you put on the cake?
  • Draw a picture of the cake you made in your garden.
  • Orally plan a simple  sentence -say it out loud, count the number of words in the sentence on your finger e.g. I made a mud cake. I put 6 candles on my cake. 
  • Use your letters and sounds knowledge to write words.

Forest School
Today in Forest school we made a birthday cake for Jack (from Jack and the beanstalk).
  • Find a space in your garden where you are allowed to dig.
  • Use soil and water make some mud and then make into a cake shape (round, square).
  • Decorate your cake with grass, leaves, acorn cups or other natural resources.
  • Make some candles using sticks. 
  • You can take a photo of your cake to show me.

WALT: Plan and write a simple sentence.
Talk about the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Who is your favourite character? What is your favourite part?
  • Draw your favourite part of the story.
  • Write a simple sentence about it e.g. I liked it when Jack met the old man.
  • When planning a sentence count the number of words on your hand.
  • Encourage your child to listen for the first sound in each word and write it down. You can help with the rest of the spelling.

In English we have been reading and learning the story Jack and the Beanstalk. You can listen to the story here click here.

​Today the reception children have been retelling the story of Jack and the Beanstalk to an adult and we have been writing it down. You could have a go at this at home. Let the child tell you the story using their own words. 
Letters and Sounds

Introduce We are learning a new phoneme z and how to read and write it.
Revisit Practise GPCs s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, f, l, ll, ss, j, v, w, x, y Sing the alphabet song and point to each letter as you sing.   
Teach Teach the new phoneme z with actions. Explain that this phoneme can be represented by the grapheme z or sometimes by zz at the end of words. Show the word zigzag – see reading two syllable words  Words: zip, buzz, jazz, zigzag, yes, yell, yet, yum.
Apply Hold up caption on card or whiteboard. Read together model blending tricky words.
Zip it up! Can a taxi zigzag? Can a bell buzz? 
Maths
