Accelerated Reader

Since September 2015, we have used Accelerated Reader (AR) to monitor, structure and reward children's reading across the school. Since we introduced AR, children have responded positively to the programme with a corresponding impact on rates of progress and attainment.
Accelerated Reading isn't used to assess children's reading ability. At Trinity, we use regular assessment through listening to children read regularly, performance in comprehension activities and tests in order to form a judgement about a child's reading ability and the next steps to improve as a reader. The ZPD score that children receive through Star Reading assessments gives a 'snapshot' of a child's reading ability at any given time. It certainly isn't the final word on a child's reading ability as we use a range of other assessment measures to form a judgement.
For more information, visit the Curriculum pages.

Click the AR Bookfinder button to find appropriate reading material linked to your child's ZPD range. This enables children, parents and relatives to find books that will interest children whilst still ensuring they are appropriately challenged and supported in selected reading material.

If you would like to limit your search to the books that are in the school library, please use the code QJ246593.
The names of the lists tell you where you will find the books in school.

Please get in touch if you have any queries.

Recommended Reads

We have created a List for every year group that recommends our Top 20 suggested reads for children to read and enjoy in each Year as they progress through Primary School. Please see the Explanation sheet for further details and download a copy of these Lists, below.

Reading Rewards

Providing children with a love of stories, poems and information should be its own reward. However, to reward children who make an effort with reading at all levels, we use a range of reward systems to motivate children and acknowledge success and hard work. The reward system enables children to take ownership of their own reading assessment. From time to time, children will bring home certificates and rewards. How these are given is presented below.

Character Clash is our own trading card game system. The more points that children earn using Accelerated Reader, the more cards they can collect. There's even 'Shinies'!
